3 Summer Palooza Music Fest Tips To Help You Stay Hydrated And Fueled Up
There's just something special about a weekend's worth of music, all in the great outdoors. Whether you’re listening to rock in roll at
Red Rocks Amphitheatre or the smooth sounds at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, Grizzly knows you’re going to remember it forever. Hitting multiple stages with sunshine beating down on you all day means you're going to need to stay hydrated and fueled up. How do you keep drinks cold, food fresh, and stay mobile?
#1 Double Up The Cooler
An entire day at a music festival means planning for multiple meals as well as plenty of drink options. Try having a “basecamp cooler” that you leave in your vehicle. A 40 or 60 quart cooler fits nicely in the trunk or right on the back seat. Pack this larger cooler with lots of ice and all the meals and drinks you can possibly fit.
In the morning pack a
smaller cooler, 15 or 20 quart, with drinks and food from your larger cooler. This smaller cooler option gives you mobility, so you can travel easily from stage to stage, stay hydrated, and dance the day away.
Mid afternoon, about 3pm, take a hike back to your basecamp cooler and refill on drinks, and pack more food for dinner. Be sure to throw enough goods in to keep you going well past sunset.
The double cooler option not only keeps provisions fresh all day, but saves you dollars and helps you to eat healthier. Avoiding greasy and expensive food truck options will help you enjoy the festival even more. Don’t get me wrong, you still might need to squeeze in an Elephant Ear at some point.
#2 Use Insulated Outdoor Drinkware
Another great option for staying hydrated is an insulated outdoor bottle. Not only will a
Grizzly Grip Bottle keep your drinks cold, but they will have ice floating in them all day long. The CDC recommends drinking 8 oz of water every half hour when you're out in the heat. A 32oz or 64oz bottle is an easy to carry option for continual hydration throughout the concert.
Using your cooler to carry sports drinks, iced teas, and sodas and your insulated bottle for water will help you keep the cooler closed, aiding in ice retention. Take sips out of your bottle all day, save the other drinks for meal times.
#3 Think Electrolytes
Failing to plan for proper hydration can really hinder your fun at the summer palooza music festival. We are all happier when we are cool, and feeling our best. A necessity of hydration is consuming the proper amount of electrolytes. Drink water all day long, and add in these electrolyte options as well.
-
Electrolyte Tablets and Powders - There are many supplements designed to dissolve in your drinking water. I love Wilderness Athletes, Hydrate and Recover. I’ve also heard great things about LIQUID I.V. Add a supplement to your Grizzly Grip Bottle and boost your electrolytes as you sip water throughout the festival.
-
Coconut Water - One of the best electrolyte drinks is coconut water. My favorite sports drink utilizing coconut water is Body Armor. It claims “superior hydration” and it delivers. Throw a pack of Body Armor in your base camp cooler and enjoy.
-
Watermelon - Fruits are not only a food source but also contain high amounts of water. Watermelon is perfect for eating at any picnic or festival and is packed with electrolytes. Cut up a melon prior to the event and store it in ziplock bags.
-
Veggies - Containers of carrots, celery, green peppers and more are an awesome way to keep cool and hydrated. Consider this, you can have a greasy bacon cheeseburger bouncing up and down in your stomach all day, or a salad. Sometimes the burger is worth it, but the veggies are going to provide electrolytes and maybe less trips to the restroom.
Stay cool and enjoy the show. Welcome to SUMMER PALOOZA!
