Safety Tips For Road Construction Workers

Hot Roads & Cool Drinks - Safety Tips For Road Construction Workers

Summer heat is just around the corner! For road workers that means working in 90+ degree temperatures while laying asphalt that can reach temps over 300℉. Taking daily precautions to avoid illness related to heat exposure is a must. So how do road workers stay cool? Grizzly has a few safety tips for road construction workers.

  1. Dress To Repel Heat: Athletic and recreational clothing offer cooling properties as well as UV protection. Wearing a UV protectant neck-gaiter can also help by keeping the sun off of your neck and face. Be sure to cover your head with a light weight, wide-brimmed hat in situations where you are not required to wear a helmet. Light colored clothing will also aid in repelling heat. And, don’t forget the sun block.

  2. Live With Healthy Routines: Get the proper amount of rest during the workweek. Drink plenty of fluids at home the night before and morning of your workday. Water and drinks with vitamins and electrolytes are key! If you arrive on the jobsite well rested and hydrated you start yourself off ready for a healthy day in the heat.

  1. Pace Yourself: Keep a healthy pace as you work. Take all of your allotted breaks. Take breaks in shade or an air conditioned environment to cool your body down as much as possible.
  2. Stay Hydrated On The Job Site: Bring a cooler with cold drinks to last throughout the day. Multiple waters and sports drinks kept on ice are key. Grizzly has you covered for this one.

Finally A Tough Cooler For Construction Workers

Grizzly Outdoor Coolers stand up to the heat all day long. Our hard-sided coolers are pressure injected with up to two inches of polyurethane foam. Our lids seal with a silicone rubber gasket to keep cold air trapped and extend the longevity of your ice. When I’m working with asphalt in any kind of heat I bring a G20 packed with drinks. My foreman brings a Grizzly 40 quart cooler stocked with sports drinks. No reason to risk dehydration. The G20 is easy to carry to the work area, and the G40 is perfect to leave at our break site. We always offset those HOT ROADS with COOL DRINKS thanks to Grizzly Coolers.
